Books...

Can anybody recommend us some good books? We're just realizing that we have 2 months with only each other as company and no TV, radio or DVDs to distract us when we start to wind each other up. Can anyone recommend any good reading material for us to take with us because we're clueless. My last book buying experience didn't turn out well and I'd prefer not to end up in South America with nothing to read apart from the Spanish version of Hello magazine. Should we just buy up the current NY Times best seller list? Your suggestions are much appreciated!!

Hey guys,
Khaled Housseini is a storming writer and either 'The Kite Runner' or 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' would be excellent choices.
On a more spiritual note, you'd love 'The Irresistible Revolution' by Craig Claiborne or (as you've got time in your hands) Rick Joyner's comprehensive thome-esque 'Heaven' is truly mindaltering...in a Christian way.

'war by candlelight' by the peruvian-american writer daniel alarcón is a beautiful collection of short stories set in NY, lima, and the peruvian countryside. the best stories in it are truly heartbreaking, but they helped me get a much better sense of life in peru during the years of guerilla war with sendero luminoso... not exactly light reading, but i highly recommend it.
